The landmark Supreme Court judgment in April 2025 affirmed what we at GWD have long maintained: that "sex" in the Equality Act means biological sex. The judgment represented a decisive victory for scientific material realism— a value that lies at the very heart of the Green Party Philosophical Basis.
By confirming that sex is binary and immutable, the Court validated our position that policies denying material reality cannot be reconciled with either science or the law. This legal clarification provided a crucial foundation for returning to evidence-based policymaking within the Green Party and beyond.
However, making this legal clarity a practical reality requires ongoing advocacy and support. As a member, you'll help ensure that environmental politics embraces both ecological wisdom and biological reality.
What we do:
Advocacy
We've built strategic partnerships with organisations supporting women's rights, including discussions with the EHRC on guidance for political parties, collaboration with the Free Speech Union, and ongoing connections with gender critical women across party lines. These alliances amplify our influence beyond the Green Party.
Campaigns
Our campaigns address real-world impacts—highlighting why women need single-sex spaces in healthcare, sports, prisons, and other settings where sex matters. Through evidence-based activism, we give voice to women whose needs are overlooked when sex-based protections are undermined.
Policy
We work to shape Green Party policies that respect women's sex-based rights through ecofeminist perspectives grounded in scientific material realism. By promoting evidence-based approaches, we advocate for positions that recognise both biological reality and women's distinct experiences and needs.

What Membership Gives You
Being gender critical within the Green Party can feel isolating, but GWD membership connects you to a community that understands your challenges. Our members bring extensive knowledge of party processes, offering practical guidance on developing motions, joining policy groups, and standing for party positions.
We know that voicing gender critical beliefs can put members at risk of complaints, so membership includes access to resources for navigating GPEW's disciplinary system. When members face challenges or discipline for acknowledging biological reality, we provide practical assistance, solidarity, and where possible, more formal support.
Active Engagement
Through regular webinars and collaborative organising opportunities, you’ll meet individuals who share your commitment to both environmental justice and women's sex-based rights. Membership enables you to shape our campaigns, contribute to policy development, and ensure no member has to stand alone.
